Programs

There are 5 distinct programs at the Mackay Rehabilitation Centre.   Each program groups clientele with similar diagnoses or characteristics to ensure the development of specific programming tailored to their needs.   There are currently two different programs developed for children with motor impairments, one program for children with language impairments, one program for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing that is sub-divided into two* to respect life cycles, and one program serving all the above clientele that are attending specialized schools attached to the Ministry of Health and Social Services.

Within each program, there is a multidisciplinary team that includes professionals from a variety of disciplines such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language pathology, social work, psychology, counseling, special educator, music therapy, nursing, medicine, audiology, oral rehabilitation therapy, sign language instruction amongst others. The composition of a team will vary from one program to another according to the client’s profile and the centre’s resources. Working together, using an interdisciplinary approach, our professionals pool their expertise to offer services that are adapted to the client’s identified needs.

A variety of means to reach the clients' goals are used, and such as: individual and group therapy, workshops, lectures and support groups, community intervention and advocacy representations. Goals and means identified in conjunction with the clients are constantly re-evaluated, to evolve with each person's changing needs.

To be admitted into a program, referral from a health care professional is required, specifying the diagnosis. The admission committee of the Mackay Rehabilitation Centre refers the service request to the proper program once eligibility has been established.
