Motor Developmental
  Disorders Program

The Motor Developmental Disorder Program is for children aged between 0 and 18 years old (or 18 and 21 years old if still attending high school) presenting with a significant and persistent disability in the motor domain. Motor developmental disorder is often associated with chromosomal anomalies (ex.: Down’s Syndrome, Fragile X Syndrome, William Syndrome, Prader-Willy Syndrome, Cat Eye Syndrome,…), genetic syndromes (ex: CHARGE syndrome, VATER syndrome), neurological disorders (ex. : seizures, microcephaly…) or cerebral dysgenesis (ex.: global developmental delay). A motor developmental disorder can also be present in the context of a sensorial impairment or intellectual deficiency.

A multidisciplinary team consisting of professionals from a variety of disciplines such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language pathology, special education, social work and psychology work together in an interdisciplinary way to meet the needs and goals identified by the child and the family. Modalities of intervention will vary from individual or joint therapy, group interventions or parent workshops according to the needs.

To be admissible for services, a child must be referred by a health professional. The referral source must join a copy of the medical report documenting the diagnosis along with all other pertinent medical or professional reports (OT, PT, Psychology..) to the Request for Services Form (DSIE form for professionals working within the Ministry of Health and Social Services).

For those presenting a significant and persistent delay in their development:
  • Gross motor
  • Fine motor
  • Communication
