Clinics
There are 5 different clinics currently running at the Mackay Rehabilitation Centre. The clinics are the result of a joint collaboration between the Montreal Children’s Hospital of the McGill University Health Center and the Mackay Rehabilitation Centre to bring together the expertise of the medical and rehabilitation worlds. The teams work in an interdisciplinary approach, pooling together their knowledge and understanding of the physical impairment to better meet the client’s needs.
Clinic functioning differs from Program functioning. The presence of doctors during a clinic allows for the evaluation of health factors that might be contributing to a specific problem which can impact on rehabilitation intervention. Clinics are held on a monthly or bi-monthly basis and are designed for assessment and recommendation.
Each clinic regroups clienteles with similar diagnosis or characteristics given the pooling of expertise present to assess their specific needs. The clinics held at Mackay Rehabilitation Centre are:
- Saliva Management Clinic
- Orthopedic Clinic
- Deaf and Hard of Hearing Clinic
- Dysphagia Clinic
- Otolaryngology Clinic
The Otolaryngology, Orthopedic and Deaf and Hard of Hearing Clinics are available for clients registered with Mackay Rehabilitation Centre only. Children are referred to the clinic by their treating therapist.
The Saliva Management and Dysphagia Clinics will receive all pediatric clients referred for a saliva management or feeding/swallowing problem regardless if they are registered or not with the Mackay Rehabilitation Centre. However, if rehabilitation intervention is indicated following from the recommendations made by the Saliva Management or Dysphagia teams, only clients admissible to Mackay Rehabilitation Centre will be eligible for services. A referral from an attending physician is necessary to get an appointment at both of these clinics.
