Otolaryngology Clinic

The Otolaryngology clinic is designed to meet the needs of children presenting with significant and persistent ear, nose or throat problems that impede on the child’s rehabilitation. Children seen at the clinic are either followed in one of the programs, services or other clinics at the Centre.

The clinic involves an assessment and clarification of ear, nose and throat conditions that impact on rehabilitation treatment and that might require medical options and follow-up. As an example, a child presenting with a hearing impairment can be screened to determine if he/she could be a good candidate for a Bone Anchored Hearing Aid System (Baha).

Dr. Sam J. Daniel, who is the Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist attending the clinic, consults with the treating therapists involved with the child. The clinic provides the opportunity for parents, children, professionals and otolaryngologist to assess specific hearing, communication or swallowing problems and propose recommendations and treatment options. Working within an interdisciplinary approach, they pool their expertise together to better meet client’s needs.

The Mackay Rehabilitation Centre in conjunction with other resources in the community (hospitals, audioprothesists, and others) can ensure the follow-up stemming from the recommendations made at the Otolaryngology Clinic. The clinic is held every month.

A referral from a health professional is required for a child registered with Mackay Rehabilitation Center to be seen at the clinic. Parents are requested to be present at the clinic.
