Orthopedic Clinic

The orthopedic clinic is one of the first clinics implemented at the Mackay Rehabilitation Center. It is designed to meet the orthopedic needs of children presenting with a significant and persistent motor deficit either followed in the Motor Disabilities Program, the Rehabilitation Program in Specialized Schools or seen in the Service for Assistive Technology: Seating, Environment and Mobility (SAT-SEM).

The clinic involves an assessment and clarification of orthopedic conditions requiring rehabilitation treatment or medical procedures and follow-up, an evaluation and prescription of mobility devices and aids and finally an evaluation of made-to-measure positioning devices.

The pediatric orthopedist attending the clinic is Dr. Thierry Benaroch who consults with the occupational therapist, physiotherapist, clinical coordinator, seating and mobility specialist and technician involved with the child. The clinic provides the opportunity for parents, children, professionals and orthopedist to assess specific orthopedic presenting situations and propose recommendations and treatment procedures. Working within an interdisciplinary approach, they pool their expertise together to better meet client’s needs.

The Mackay Rehabilitation Centre in conjunction with other resources in the community (hospitals, orthosis laboratories, and other), can ensure the follow-up stemming from the recommendations made by the Orthopedic Clinic. The clinic is held every second month or according to needs.

A referral from a health professional is required for a child registered with Mackay Rehabilitation Center to be seen at the clinic. Parents are requested to be present at the clinic.
